Description
Moissanite is named after Dr. Henry Moissanite. Also called mossangite, carbon silica, chemical name is synthetic silicon carbide, its appearance and diamond similar, often as a diamond substitute. It is also a gem whose physical properties are closest to those of a natural diamond.
Its chemical composition is SiC, nearly colorless, refractive index 2.56-2.69, dispersion 0.104, birefringence 0.043, hardness 9.25, density 3.22 g/cc.
